Passiontide Meditation, Sunday, March 29, 4 p.m., Sanctuary; livestream available

St. Paul’s Staff Singers and teen choristers combine to perform a service of ancient and modern music. Thomas Tallis’s “Lamentations” are among the brightest gems in a broad sea of Tudor jewels. Pulitzer Prize-winner, Caroline Shaw, was commissioned by the contemporary choir “The Crossing” to write a response to the 17th century cantata “Ad manus” (literally “to the hands”) from Dietrich Buxtehude’s series of cantatas meditating on each of the wounds of Jesus on the cross. Paired together, the Tallis and Shaw works create an arc of past to present, spanning a wealth of expression and emotion as we enter Holy Week.

Stations of the Cross, Tuesday, March 31, 6 p.m., Sanctuary

Please plan to gather in the Parish Hall for light snacks at 5:30 p.m., and then proceed together to the sanctuary to pray and walk the stations, created through art by St. Paul’s parishioners. This special service is inviting, welcoming, and appropriate for people of all ages.

Tenebrae, Wednesday, April 1, 6 p.m., Choir Loft

Tenebrae is an ancient Christian tradition recalling the somber events of Jesus’ last days, beginning with the Last Supper and ending with his burial. During Tenebrae, candles are extinguished one by one as scripture and music tell the story of Holy Week.
