Youth Group Plans

As St. Paul’s itself is going through a time of discernment as the new rector search continues, the Youth Group adult leadership - with the support of Interim Rector Devon Anderson - is interested in looking for ways to improve the future content and delivery of the Youth Group program.

After discussions with youth and parents, the first thing we would like to try to change is the format of Youth Group - having the gathering and content part of our time first, followed with social time that can include some of the snacking/cooking many enjoy.

We hope to end closer to 11:30 a.m. with this schedule. Youth who have parents attending the 11:15 a.m. service can move to the church to join them when we wrap things up, and parents who are waiting after the Adult Faith Formation or Godly Play times won’t have to stay as long.

We are also going to add structure to the content/faith formation part of Youth Group. There are usually three Sundays/month with regularly scheduled Youth Ministry - with the fourth Sunday being an inclusive all-parish function. We are going to designate one of those Sundays for continuing the focus on Creation Care with Bill Cummings. The other two Sundays will utilize a curriculum called “Journey to Adulthood,” with lessons taught by Susie Holtz and Drew Tharp. In May, all lessons will be focused around Creation Care, as spring starts waking up.

Generally, the Creation Care lesson will be the first Youth Group meeting scheduled for the month, with Y2A (Youth to Adulthood) lessons for the next two meetings.

Laura Williams, Danny Gardner, and Julia Ramsey-Tharp will continue to support the program as Community Builders and second adults.
