Where is Jeff? June 15
Jeff is following the Ignatian Camino in Spain from June 2-30. This week, his pilgrimage takes him to the cities of Navarrete, Logrono, Calahorra and Tudela. His first stop is the city of Navarrete; the city is one of historical and monumental character and is an important pottery center. The land is located on a glacis (gentle, sloping bank) of the Iregua River. The historic center of the town is built on a hill from which the town expanded. From here, Jeff traveled to Logrono, a city which has been a place of passage for the Camino de Santiago. The city is a center of trade for Rioja wine and the manufacturing of metal and textile products. As the week progressed, Jeff passed through the city of Calahorra; this is the second largest city in LaRioja and is located on a hill at the confluence of the Ebso and Cidocos rivers. A service-industry city, its focus is on administrative, commercial and leisure fields. Finishing out the week, Jeff trekked through the city of Tudela; this city is in the Ebro valley. It is the capital of the agricultural region of Ribera Navarre and also seat of the courts of its judicial district. The city houses a week-long festival in honor of Santa Ana. Street music, bull fights and running of the bulls are typical events of the festival. Jeff’s spiritual exercises for this week will be on the call of the temporal King.; it helps to contemplate the life of the King eternal. Stay tuned for next week’s update!
