Streets to Home Indy Initiative - Move-in Kit Collection
St. Paul’s parishioners stepped forward with wonderful generosity in support of the Streets to Home Indy (STHI) initiative — over $55,000 was donated — thank you! What comes next? St. Paul’s Community Engagement team is working to gather supplies and assemble move-in kits for STHI residents and is asking for your help. Each person who moves into a new apartment through Streets to Home arrives with very few belongings — often just the clothes they are wearing and a handful of personal items. Simple household essentials like towels, sheets, dishes, and pans are missing. During Lent, St. Paul’s has the opportunity to help change that.
St Paul’s Community Engagement team has a goal of assembling and donating 10 move-in kits to Streets to Home residents, with items being collected during Lent and delivered after Easter. A sample move-in kit will be on display at the Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper, where a sign up will be available for parishioners who would like to purchase an item, a room, or a full kit. Learn more and see the list of needed items below.
Please watch for a sign up also in Burrows Commons during Lent. Thank you for sharing Christ’s love in such a tangible and hopeful way! We know St. Paul’s can do it!

In 2025, the city of Indianapolis, with local philanthropy and faith communities, implemented the Streets to Home Indy initiative to address the problem of homelessness in Indianapolis. The goal of phase I of the plan (2025-26) is to close 11 of the homeless encampments in the city. Currently, three encampments are closed and a fourth - that is quite large - is being divided into zones as work is being done to close it. This has all been achieved, in part, because of generous donations from people like you.
Setting up housekeeping for new Streets to Home Indy residents is now being addressed by faith communities, with move-In kits being assembled and donated by local churches. The move-in kits (click here - or below - to see a list of needed items) will provide new renters with necessary supplies to set up housekeeping. Purchased items can be dropped off in Burrows Commons throughout Lent.
On Sunday, February 22, St. Paul’s Community Engagement members will share a short presentation at the Adult Faith Forum (10:15-11 a.m., Lilly Room), introducing this project, explaining the need and purpose, and answering questions.
