Thursday, May 7, 6:30-8 p.m.

Join Mosaic Book Club at Fire by the Monon this summer! Sit outdoors and discuss book selections, starting with a read by young, Indiana author (Leah Johnson) who graduated from Ben Davis High School, and then moving to some classic Black authors to round out our selections!

You Should See Me in a Crown” is a young adult novel about Liz Lighty, a Black, queer teen who enters her small town's prom king and queen competition to win a scholarship to her dream college after her financial aid falls through. The story follows her reluctant journey through the social gauntlet, her fear of the spotlight, and her developing romance with her main competition, the witty and confident new girl, Mack. It's a joyful, coming-of-age story that explores themes of identity, racism, homophobia, and finding your voice.

Looking ahead
June - “Devil In A Blue Dress” by Walter Mosely, one of the first Black mystery writers
July - “Their Eyes Were Watching God” by Zora Neale Hurston, first published in 1937 and a former staple in high school and college literature classes.

Meeting time will be 6:30 - 8 p.m. all summer. Please click here to email Susie Holtz, or text 317-370-4262, with questions and to RSVP.
