Season of Creation
Each year, Christians around the world set aside the weeks between September 1 and October 4 as the Season of Creation — a time of prayer, worship, learning and action centered on all creation. The Season of Creation invites us to slow down, to give thanks and to consider how our daily choices reflect our love for both Creator and creation.
The global and Anglican theme for this year's Season of Creation is "Living Water." Inspired by the prophet Ezekiel's vision of life-giving water flowing from God's presence (Ezekiel 47:9, 12), the theme reminds us that God's renewing grace brings healing wherever it flows — to people, communities and the whole created order. Water sustains every form of life, connects every living creature and calls us to recognize our shared responsibility to protect the resources that nourish God's world. As followers of Christ, we’re invited to become channels of that living water through prayer, compassion, justice and faithful care for creation.
This year, St. Paul's will observe the Season of Creation from September 13 through October 4, weaving the season into our liturgy, prayers, preaching and formation. We’re especially grateful to have received permission from Bishop Jennifer Baskerville-Burrows to celebrate the season in our worship. We understand that, to the best of the diocese's knowledge, St. Paul's is the only congregation in the Diocese of Indianapolis observing the Season of Creation in this way. We hope our participation encourages others to explore this meaningful expression of faithful stewardship in the years to come.
Concluding on the Feast of St. Francis of Assisi, the patron saint of animals and ecology, this ecumenical season reminds us that caring for creation is not simply an environmental concern, but a deeply spiritual calling rooted in Scripture and our baptismal covenant. Our observance will culminate on Sunday, October 4 with our Pet Blessing, celebrating the joy of God's creatures and the love we share with our pets while honoring St. Francis' example of reverence for all living things.

It will include prayers, Scripture, activities and formation inspired by this year's "Living Water" theme.
