Discussion for Sunday, January 8, 2012
High school students discussed forgiveness in the context of one relationship:
• Is there one person in your life that you need to forgive?
• Who is that person?
• Is there someone that you always cross heads with?
• Do you want to improve that relationship?
Some students shared their thoughts, and then we listened to the song 7 x 70 by Chris August. You can listen to the song and read the lyrics and story behind the song here: chrisaugustmusic.com/songs/7x70
We discussed where the term “7 x70” came from, and the story of the Forgiving Master and Unmerciful Servant (Matthew 18:21-35).
• Why did Jesus tell this story?
• Do we ask for forgiveness more than we give it?
• Why do some of us have a hard time saying, “I’m sorry.”
•
Why did Jesus say we need to forgive?
• What does that look like?
• Does forgiveness mean forgive and forget?
• Can you forgive and not be in relationship with that person?
We also discussed how forgiveness is a journey, and there are levels of forgiveness, and it may take years to completely forgive someone.
