Opportunities for Young Children
Beginning Singers
The Choir School offers children in grades 3-8 individual instruction in music theory and vocal training free of charge. Interested children do not need to be members of St. Paul's or the Episcopal Church. Beginning trebles learn to read music and acquire basic vocal technique for singing.
Practices are on Thursdays from 4:45-6:00 p.m. Choir School members sing with the intergenerational choir at the 9:00 a.m. Sunday service. The winter semester starts in January.
Primary Singers
The purpose of Primary Singers is to familiarize elementary aged boys and girls with liturgy and music in a fun and interactive manner. This is an excellent way for young worshipers to gain appreciation for the liturgy and music of our worship. Learning about the music of the church not only helps children become more integrated into the worship service, but it also enhances their verbal, math and spatial intelligence development.
The children learn basic music reading skills by using The Hymnal 1982 and playing music games. They also develop their sense of pitch and rhythm through regular singing and rhythmic exercises. No previous musical training is required and children do not have to be members of St. Paul's to attend.
If your child would like to participate in either of these opportunities, or if you have further questions, please contact Frank Boles.
