St. Paul's Health Ministries
Health Ministries has an intentional focus on both health and healing, combining the ancient traditions of the Christian community and the knowledge and tools of modern health care. The church is, after all, in the business of healing (making whole), and doing it in community.
Health Ministry is a witness of the healing activity of God through the local Christian congregation, encouraging holistic health through:
• Integration of body, mind and spirit,
• Increased self-knowledge,
• Personal responsibility, and
• Interdependence among God's people.
Health Ministry does not replicate services that already exist in the community; we work with community partners and resources. St. Paul's is a place where health professionals and lay people work together to keep parishioners well and to support each other during illness. We celebrate the relationship between health and faith - in the individual, the family, the church, the community and the health care system.
Take a look at the following list of Health Ministry components in our brochure. If you are interested in participating, please contact the Rev. Jean Denton, RN.
Weight Watchers meetings held at St. Paul's
If you've ever been curious about the Weight Watchers program, come check it out. Weight Watchers meets every Tuesday at St. Paul's in the Apostles' Chapel. Weigh-in begins at 5:30 p.m. and the meeting starts at 6:00 p.m. Weight Watchers has thousands of success stories.... will you be one of them?
Walking to Jerusalem
Thank you to the 159 participants in the 2007 St. Paul's Walk to Jerusalem. We completed 8,425 miles of walking, running, jogging, swimming and cycling, and we collected $1,968 for the health care ministry of the Episcopal Diocese of Jerusalem.
Many took this opportunity to weave their exercise with spirituality. They testified: "Walking in the beauty of God's creation reduces my stress and worries." "I actually looked forward to exercise, and I'm thankful for my body!" "What the Lord requires of us is to do justice, love mercy and walk humbly with our God." "God wants us to have life abundantly!" AMEN!
