• Rector's Book Group: Sept. 8, 10:00 a.m. & 7:00 p.m.
September's selection is The Year of Living Biblically: One Man’s Humble Quest to Follow the Bible as Literally as Possible by A.J. Jacobs (Simon & Schuster 2007). Jacobs is the Editor at Large of Esquire and the author of the New York Times bestseller The Know-it-All, which is about his experience of spending one year reading the entire Encyclopaedia Britannica. In his most recent book, he recounts with humor and spiritual insight what it was like to spend a year trying to obey all the commands of the Bible, something very few, if any, twenty-first century Christians truly attempt. This group meets monthly in the Roberts Library. You do not have to have read the book to attend.

• Construction begins at St. Patrick’s
Last week, work began on the new building for St. Patrick’s, Long Beach, Miss. The church was completely destroyed by Hurricane Katrina in 2006, after which St. Paul’s adopted St. Patrick’s through Episcopal Relief & Develpment (ERD) as a Partner Parish. We have continued to provide support over the past two years, and share in their joy that the rebuilding process has begun. You can follow the construction progress by visiting www.stpatrickslongbeach.org.
